I can see what you’re getting at and you’re absolutely right. My personal approach is to not take things too seriously and to always see things through a rose-tinted glass. Life is more beautiful and happier that way. However, I do have a bit of a different opinion when it comes to protecting one’s feeling when it comes to joking.
I love joking. I make jokes all the time. But I also know the power of words. And they can absolutely hurt. I’ve experienced it myself even though I’ve learned since then not to take things too seriously because in the end, people can and will say whatever they want. But I do choose my words cautiously because I don’t want to hurt. Words can be tools of empowerment or weapons depending on the person wielding it.
But I totally get what you mean though. Freedom of speech is very important. If we can’t even say what we want to say, how do we learn and progress, right?
As for Guy Earle, after I read an article about his case (link below), I have to say, he deserves to be fined. Sometimes, emotional damage cannot be replaced with money, however much it is.
Even though I have slightly a different opinion on some matters, still a good read, Erik! I hope you’re not offended by my response. Just thought that I’d rather be honest. You’ve always provided me with good food for thought! Thank you for taking the time to share your thought! :)
