In our culture, it’s compulsory to be a part of this ritual if you’re a husband or daughters of the deceased. I was so scared at first. I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to handle it. To this day, I still feel strong emotion every time I think back to that moment. But I’m also so glad I had to perform that duty. It holds a special place in my heart. My last act of service for my mother who had brought me up, nurtured me and taught me all the things I needed to know to live a good life as a decent human being.
It’s so true. From that moment on, I tried my best to give people experience, love or handmade things as gifts rather than expensive things. I learned that the most precious gifts tend to be the things we cannot buy with money.
