One of the many things I’m so grateful for (even to this day) during the most difficult days not long after I lost my mother was the nurses who helped my father and I in the ritual described in this story. I don’t even know how to say thank you to them. They were so patient with us. It was after midnight (if I remember correctly). They must have been very tired. They were of different culture and belief and therefore, didn’t really know what to do or what to expect. But they assisted us the very best they could. They asked us what they should do and if it was okay to do certain medical procedure. They also kept asking us if there were anything we needed. I was and still am so so grateful.

When I read that your mom is currently in the ICU, the memory of staring at my mother through the glass came rushing back. It must not be easy for you. Tough times. If I’m nearby you, I would have given you a hug and tell you it’s going to be okay. But your experience as a nurse will help you a great deal. Thank you for reading and for your kind words and for doing what you do. It means a great deal to us, the family of the patient. Sending you lots of healing and a huge warm hug.
